  • Hosts APICTA Executive Committee Meeting 2025, welcoming delegates from 15 countries

As part of its national drive to accelerate digital transformation and position itself as a key player in the regional technology landscape, Sri Lanka successfully hosted the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Executive Committee (EXCO) Meeting 2025 recently at the Hilton Colombo.

The high-level forum convened representatives from 15 APICTA member economies, fostering meaningful dialogue on strengthening regional ICT collaboration, promoting innovation, and building future-ready digital ecosystems across the Asia-Pacific region.

APICTA is an association of ICT communities across the Asia-Pacific region, working together to promote technology innovation and foster the development of indigenous ICT solutions for global markets — primarily through its prestigious annual awards program.

This year’s EXCO meeting provided an important platform to align strategic priorities and explore collaborative initiatives across critical sectors including e-governance, smart infrastructure, digital entrepreneurship, education technology, and cross-border innovation ecosystems.

Sri Lanka’s hosting of this event underscored the country’s growing stature as an emerging digital economy hub and a trusted partner in the Asia-Pacific technology space. With its strategic geographic location, highly skilled technology talent, and expanding digital infrastructure, Sri Lanka continues to position itself as a regional connector and gateway for digital partnerships and investment.

The meeting was jointly hosted by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) and BCS The Chartered Institute for IT – Sri Lanka Section.

A key highlight of the event was the participation of Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eng. Eranga Weeraratne together with Ministry of Digital Economy Acting Secretary Waruna Sri Dhanapala. They engaged in productive discussions with the APICTA Executive Committee, led by its Chairman Fulvio Inserra, along with other regional representatives.

Industry leaders including FITIS Chairman Indika De Zoysa, and BCS Sri Lanka Chairman Vajeendra S. Kandegamage, also participated in the discussions, further reinforcing Sri Lanka’s commitment to fostering public-private partnerships in driving its digital economy agenda.

Sri Lanka’s leadership in the regional tech space was bolstered with Ruwan Amarasekara elected as APICTA Treasurer, Kalinga Ihalagedara appointed to the Judging Subcommittee, and Vajeendra S. Kandegamage named Chairman of the Judging Subcommittee.

MillenniumIT ESP, serving as the Strategic Partner for the event, played a vital role in supporting the successful execution of the program — demonstrating the strength and leadership of Sri Lanka’s private sector in the ICT space.

Additionally, Port City Colombo hosted a special engagement session for the visiting delegates, presenting its ambitious vision to develop a smart, tech-driven financial and business hub — further aligning with Sri Lanka’s aspirations to drive digital-led economic growth and position itself as a future-ready investment destination.

The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) contributed significantly as a supporting partner of the event, reinforcing its commitment to promoting Sri Lanka as a premier destination for international conferences and events.

These high-level engagements focused on exploring opportunities for deeper cross-border collaboration in ICT innovation, policy development, and knowledge sharing — with a shared vision of leveraging digital transformation for inclusive economic growth across the region.
