VMware, one of the leading developers in global enterprise software, yesterday joined hands with leading telecommunication service provider Dialog Axiata to extend Sri Lanka’s enterprise cloud market by introducing a Virtual Cloud Network which enables digital transformation islandwide.
VMware Vice President Sanjay Deshmukh said VMware would invest in the cloud economy given the fact that the country’s cloud industry is rapidly growing with 85% of businesses planning investments in Digital Infrastructure, contributing to a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 14.2% for IT market expenditure between 2014 and 2019.
Introducing the Virtual Cloud Network, Deshmukh said: “I’m very excited to announce the software-defined Virtual Cloud Network, a new network approach that will provide organisations with robust and more secure connectivity. With a Virtual Cloud Network, businesses will be able to create an end-to-end software-based network architecture which delivers services to applications and data, wherever they are located.”
The Virtual Cloud Network will operate at a global scale from edge to edge and deliver consistent, pervasive connectivity and intrinsic security for apps and data, independent of underlying physical infrastructure or location.
He also stated a digital foundation built on VMware enables organisations to flex and harness new technology at a speed at which they evolve without disrupting business operations.
“The value of anything is connected to the network and this is accelerated through the increasing use of Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies as users connect not only through their desktop and laptops but also via mobile devices. To be future-ready and leverage this opportunity, businesses in Sri Lanka need to be equipped with the right network foundation,” he added.

Commenting on the partnership with VMware, Dialog Axiata Head of Broadband and Fixed Telecommunications Navin Pieris stated that Dialog Axiata would become the country’s first cloud service provider to offer VMware-based cloud services to organisations, enabling businesses to leverage the best of cloud technologies and accelerate innovation.
Dialog Axiata as a cloud service provider will offer premium cloud services to its customers using a fully automated, advanced next-generation premium cloud services platform.
