Metropolitan Computers recently launched the new Acer Windows 8 Tablet series; the Acer Iconia W3 and the Acer Aspire P3, to its rapidly growing Sri Lankan clientele. Described as the most affordable Windows 8 Tablet in Sri Lanka, the Acer Iconia W3 has been designed in collaboration with Microsoft and Intel. Acer’s new 8-incher offers full support for desktop software including Microsoft Office and Excel, as well as running any of the 70,000+ apps found in the Windows Store. Like past Windows 8 tablet PCs, the Iconia W3 relies on an Intel Atom processor to provide the full Windows 8 experience. Unlike these other small tablets, it is small enough to be used one-handed, much like a smart phone or tablet. The Iconia W3 can also be used with a detachable keyboard dock, but unlike the docking Windows tablets of late, the keyboard is considerably larger than the tablet to allow room for more comfortable typing. Built into the underside of the docking keyboard is storage for the tablet, letting one store it when not in use. The new convertible Acer Aspire P3 Ultrabook™ is an extraordinarily powerful Tablet and encompasses everything one needs in one versatile device. Its Intel® Core™ i5 processor gives it the power to handle several complex tasks at the same time. This is made even more possible by the Windows 8 Snap split screen which lets one switch between applications without having to look for them. With a 10-point touch screen one has the best control over all of one’s actions while the full-size chiclet keyboard provides total comfort for typing those important emails. It redefines the computer and is a new generation of personal computing. Super thin and light, the Aspire P3 is an Ultrabook™ when one is focused on productive tasks, and a tablet when one needs greater flexibility to move around. Metropolitan Computers (Pvt) Ltd. CEO Niranjan De Silva said that experiencing the latest tech innovations has become a dream for some segments of the market. “Our mission is to make this dream a reality by enabling the Sri Lankan customer to experience the world’s latest technology at very affordable prices. Hence our introduction of this extensive range of Windows 8 Tablets to Sri Lanka”. Microsoft Sri Lanka Director OEM Poojitha Rajapaksha said: “As a company we see the total ecosystem changing from a client server to world of connected devices and continued services. It is estimated that devices will increase to double the size of the world population by 2015. Windows 8 is becoming increasingly important in all the form factors in the market. As a company we are committed to our partners and customers to give the most productive computing experience in all the devices.” “We are working with a world of developers to develop Windows 8 PC and mobile apps, to improve day-to-day productivity and to help users to find information with ease. I am excited to see Acer and Metropolitan becoming one of the pioneers to introduce Windows 8 with general availability in Sri Lanka. The Acer Iconia W3 Tablet and P3 ultra-book are a few models Acer introduces with Windows 8 winning the traction of the market. We will also probably see more models coming out in the future,” Rajapaksha added. “Acer has continuously catered to new global trends like mobility, on-the-go computing, making Acer users feel comfortable where ever they go. Windows 8 platforms give that convenience of working just as one would on one’s office desktop. In fact both Tablets are equipped with a Bluetooth keyboard and the ‘touch and type’ function thus making them a sheer pleasure to use”, de Silva concluded.
