Kaspersky Lab unveiled its new generation of business security solutions designed to help businesses overcome the latest challenges in managing a secure, efficient network, at a press conference held at Waters Edge.

‘Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business’, the company’s new flagship security platform for businesses, was built to provide the industry’s best protection from advanced malware and cybercrime, and also to combat another common enemy of IT security – complexity. It is the first true security platform built from the ground up, offering a business critical combination of deep protection, efficiency and seamless manageability.

Present on occasion were Vice President Tech Divisions Kaspersky Lab – Asia Pacific, Nathan Wang, Kaspersky Lab Managing Director – South Asia, Altaf Halde and Technical Support Manager – South Asia, Pranav Bhayani.

Kaspersky Lab observed that the fundamental mission of the IT administrator hasn’t changed much, but now there are more obstacles along the way. Organisations of all sizes deal with these challenges, but small-to-midsized businesses suffer from an additional hurdle – lack of resources and expertise to manage these new demands.

In addition to sophisticated malware targeting businesses on a daily basis, Kaspersky Lab stated that IT administrators must now account for new complexities. These include:

  •     Smartphones and tablets used to access the company network from anywhere in the world
  •     Employees who wish to use their mobile devices and PCs to get their work done
  •     Confidential data moving freely within the company network, or outside of the network via laptops or USB thumb drives
  •    Finding and patching holes in user applications and operating systems

These new technology realities have left IT administrators struggling with related security concerns, and in most cases, they are forced to evaluate, purchase, install and manage a new tool for each scenario. Mobile device management, systems/patch management, data encryption and more – these new tools get cobbled together with existing anti-malware technologies, leaving IT administrators with a network that’s more complex to manage, but not necessarily more secure.

“BYOD: Four letters which in several years have turned upside down the notions of the organisation of labour, motivation, corporate ethics, productivity, communications, leisure, and a lot more besides, and not forgetting of course one more notion – that of security. For employers considering BYOD, they’re left with a simple choice – either to allow or to forbid employees using their own mobile devices for work, and this has direct implications for security – either to adapt it to the new situation, or to just lock it all down, respectively,” commented Nathan Wang, Vice President Tech Divisions Kaspersky Lab – Asia Pacific.

“The latter route is of course the simplest, but comes with one lethal side-effect – the business will sooner or later need to be closed. The former route is tricky, prickly, and expensive but still doable – and totally worthwhile. With the launch of Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business, it is possible for IT managers to protect, monitor and manage the security challenges brought in by BYOD. Enter mobile device management (or should we say, mobile discipline mastery).”

Altaf Halde, Managing Director, Kaspersky Lab – South Asia, commenting on the launch, said: “Further growth in the B2B segment remains one of the key strategic priorities of Kaspersky Lab for 2013. We believe that the newly launched corporate solution will increase the confidence of enterprise customers and partners on Kaspersky Lab and we will continue to experience the growth momentum.”

Ranil Francisco and Buddhika Liyanage, Directors of the Avian Group – Kaspersky’s authorised distributor for Sri Lanka and Maldives, added: “As we move in to a different dimension of IT security with cyber threats and attacks, we are indeed very excited to introduce the latest Kaspersky Business version to our loyal customers to protect their digital networks. We believe this product will surely offer solutions and answers to many IT heads on their current and future IT security concerns”
