“With the Sri Lankan Government’s focus and attention on making the country’s youth IT savvy by 2016, this is the perfect timing for AVIC to launch their products, which is affordable for everyone,” Maj. Gen. (Reld) D.S.K. Wijesighe said. “Providing the youth with customised features at a very low cost will surely attract them, while they enjoy the product,” he added.

Thanking CorpMerge Sri Lanka Managing Director Raj Mylvaganam for taking the initiative in launching the tablet PCs in Sri Lanka for the first time, Holly Tang introduced the features of the tablet PCs. Business interests lie not only in the field of IT but also in the fields of manufacturing, real estate, resource, retail, trade, and investment, with its affiliated companies.

“This is not the first time that we have worked with Sri Lanka; we have worked with the Government of Sri Lanka on many occasions. AVIC brought in the J7, K8 and M60 airplanes to Sri Lanka in 2006, provided engineering machinery and equipment to the Sri Lankan Government for their projects in 2009 and again in the same year we partnered with the Government for the highway reconstruction of the country,” said Holly Tang.  The company was established in Shenzhen, China in 2006. Now they have developed and have their exclusive agents in three countries: Russia, Brazil and Sri Lanka. The company is looking forward to establish the product with agents in Indonesia, Chile and Argentina.

The tablet PC series started off in 2011, and currently the main products of the company consist of tablet PCs, car DVDs and car GPS navigation systems. With their focus on maintaining the quality of the products, AVIC deals with a renowned chain of chip suppliers for their devices, namely Rockchip, Mediatek, mlogic, Allwinner, Tech, Vimicro, infotmic, Qualcom and also Samsung.

“The minimum price of a product is Rs. 16,000 with a range of products with the highest rate of a tablet PC at Rs. 49,000,” Tang added. The company has a customer base of 16 different countries around the world.

“We are hoping to establish one of our factories in Sri Lanka, so that the customer will not have to deal with the factory in China. In the long run, in building the AVIC factory in Sri Lanka, there will be more job opportunities for the graduates in engineering helping the Sri Lankan Government reduce the unemployment rate in Sri Lanka,” Raj Mylvaganam stated.

“Currently, the company will provide some of the backup hardware for the agents in Sri Lanka, if needed. We will be following the SKD system when constructing the AVIC factory. SKD works by shipping the product in four deferent parts to the importer, the screen/TP/Front casing, PCBA/accessory material, battery and back case. As for the importer, he should be aware of three main things which are IQC, assembly and installation of software,” Tang explained.

“There are about 4.5 million students in Sri Lanka, and in proving the tablet PCs at a low cost, half of this amount could be easily covered, which will help increase our IT savvy in 2016. Things have changed during the past few years everyone is looking for speed, efficacy, durability and safety at a low cost in a minimised product on your palmtop,” Minister of Parliament Sri Lanka Thilanga Sumathipala said.

“We have a role to play down the line, therefore, since the opportunity is being provided, it’s better we get onboard and join the rest of the top manufacturing chains in the world. And I hope that AVIC will help Sri Lanka plant its flag in the field of IT as a manufacturer.”
