The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) – Sri Lanka Chapter to further develop accounting professionals in the specialised area of information systems.

The MoU between the two organisations is seen as an important initiative which will help develop accounting professionals in particular in the areas of information system security, control, audit and governance.

ISACA Sri Lanka, which is directly affiliated to ISACA USA – recognised as one of the global leaders in information systems (IS) – will work together with CA Sri Lanka to offer a host of programs including seminars and workshops for Sri Lankan professionals aiming to increase their knowledge in IS systems which is imperative for their day to day operations.

Following the MoU, CA Sri Lanka members numbering to over 4,300 chartered accountants will enjoy an additional benefit as they will be given a special discount for all ISACA events, while ISACA members will enjoy the same benefit for CA Sri Lanka events.

Plans are also afoot to form a CA Sri Lanka IT GRC Forum, for which ISACA is expected to provide its assistance.

The MOU was signed between CA Sri Lanka President Sujeewa Rajapakse and ISACA Sri Lanka President M. Asokan in the presence of CA Sri Lanka’s Vice President Arjuna Herath, Chief Executive Officer Aruna Alwis, IT Faculty Chairman Channa Manoharan, IT Faculty Alternate Chairman Ashane Jayasekera, ISACA’s Vice President Parakum Pathirana and Membership Director Sithira Wanniarachchi.

Rajapakse speaking on this new initiative noted that the institute roots back to the late 1950s and over the past five decades, the institute has continuously worked towards enhancing the professional standards practiced in Sri Lanka.

“Today our corporates are second to none; we command high standards in professional standards as practiced in the more developed countries, so we should be proud of this achievement. CA Sri Lanka is continuously striving to ensure our members and other professionals locally are provided with the best of knowledge and qualifications and hence our decision to tie up with ISACA is also one such effort in this continuing endeavour,” Rajapakse added. CA Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Aruna Alwis noted that IT knowledge is a prerequisite for any profession and the Institute having identified the importance of enhancing the knowledge of professionals, decided to tie up with ISACA to help develop the knowledge of accountants in the field of IS security, control, audit and governance.

Meanwhile, as a first step, following the signing of the MOU with ISACA (Sri Lanka), the Institute will conduct a seminar series on IT Governance Risk and Compliance (IT GRC) from 6 June 2013.
