Candela Learning Technologies, Sri Lanka’s leading digital learning technology company, won the Gold Award in the Education and Training category at the National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA) 2013 held at the Kingsbury Colombo recently. Candela has also been nominated to represent Sri Lanka at the Asia Pacific Information and Communication Technology Alliance (APICTA) Awards to be held in Hong Kong later this month. The Candela e-Textbooks are in line with the national curriculum school text books and are based on the syllabus and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and the National Institute of Education. Candela’s E text books which are in CDs, comprise of animations, audio visual explanations, interactive exercises and assessments, graphical illustrations of theoretical and practical areas of science, and are presented in a simple and interesting manner. As the CDs are identical to the syllabus, children use it before class or as a revision tool before exams. The assessment exercises at the end of each chapter are used by parents and teachers to track the progress. Leading science lecturer and writer Dr. K. Ariyasinghe said: “Candela Science e-Textbooks have uplifted the standard and quality of the students’ learning process and enhance their attention, interest and enthusiasm for learning science.” Candela Director Krishna Ravindran said: “Candela can create a genuine interest in science at a young age and a strong platform that our universities and private enterprises can then build upon. We are happy whenever we hear from teachers and parents about how our e-Textbooks have helped improve their children’s interest in science and consequently their school grades.” Launched in 2012, Candela, is rapidly gaining in popularity amongst students and teachers alike. These e-Textbooks are available for science grades 6 and 7 in all three languages, and for grades 8 and 9 in Sinhala at leading book stores island-wide.
