Keeping a step forward in its engagement with diverse stakeholders, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the premier business chamber of the country, has joined a number of social networking sites. They include the social networking giant Facebook as well as Twitter and LinkedIn.
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce is only two weeks away from turning 173 years. Established during the British rule it has originally supported the traditional plantation agriculture sector but moving along with time, it has provided broader services to the local business community.
Over the years it has expanded to various sector based associations, bilateral business councils and a host of value added services. Keeping yet another step forward to remain relevant, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce now shares its latest news, activities and upcoming events with its membership as well as the general public through social media sites.
Speaking of the oldest business chamber joining social media, Harin Malwatte, CEO/Secretary General of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, said, “The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has remained relevant and effective throughout the long history, it has supported local businesses during the tough times in 1971, 1988-89, the three decade long war and up to the present day. In this digital age, as the premier business chamber of the country, we cannot afford to be left behind. Therefore, moving with the times and changing according to the needs of the day, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has decided to join a number of social media platforms. We are certain that this step will help us reach beyond our membership to the general public and small scale entrepreneurs throughout the country who can benefit from our diverse services, and thereby help us be more inclusive in sharing knowledge and resources.”
