Cheerurteam.com awarded at mBillionth

Cheerurteam.com, a website dedicated for activities of schools in Sri Lanka, was awarded in the category of m-News & Journalism at the mBillionth Award South Asia 2011 held in Delhi, India.

Cheerurteam.com representing Sri Lanka was selected as one of the leading finalists among 189 entries that came in this year to compete for best content and application on mobile content and services.

The mBillionth Award is a dedicated platform to explore the latent potential of mobile and telecom sector across eight countries in South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The award is designed as South Asia’s leading annual mobile and telecom award platform, leading to larger regional mobile congress in media and policy advocacy. It honours excellence in mobile communications over 11 core categories from independent mobile apps developers and innovators.

Cheerurteam.com is a start-up that developed a social media site for schools and college sports for Sri Lankan schools. The application enables the communication and sharing of latest inside scoops and news on matches around the schools in Sri Lanka.

The website was formed in early 2009 and already earned many fans on average numbering up to 100,000 visitors per day and has also created a network of more than 5,000 local school sports players’ profiles so far.

Cheerurteam.com won the prestigious e-Swabhimani Award 2010 in Colombo for the country’s best e-content application in the category of e-news hosted by ICTA.
