  • With focussed session on cyber security, risk management, governance and compliance under theme ‘Digital Transformation – A Strategic Imperative’

The digital age has brought businesses great rewards: Global access, instant transactions, and new capabilities. It also brings risk. As this risk evolves with the innovation of technology, business models and payment methods, some of it may not even be recognisable. To deal with it successfully, businesses must be prepared. They need to not only put the right systems and processes in place, but also educate their employees on the importance of compliance. Tackling this vital area, CMA Sri Lanka has organised a focused session on Cybersecurity, Risk Management, Governance and Compliance at this year’s conference, themed ‘Digital Transformation – A Strategic Imperative’.

A Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) survey in 2015 found that 35% of respondents believed that their information was of no use to hackers. This may seem to apply only on a personal level. However, businesses hire individuals who then need to be trained on the relevance of cybercrime. As attacks focus on the weakest link, cybersecurity is no longer the province only of specialists.

This session will be chaired by Jayantha Fernando Director/Legal Advisor ICTA will be the Chairman of the session. He played the lead role in Sri Lanka’s accession to the Budapest Cybercrime Convention (2015) and Sri Lanka’s ratification of the UN Electronic Communications Convention (2015), both first for South Asia. He is an expert with both UNCITRAL and Council of Europe.

Jayantha was instrumental in drafting the Sri Lankan Electronic Transactions Act No. 19 of 2006, the Computer Crimes Act No. 24 of 2007 and helped draft the Payment and Settlement Systems Act No. 28 of 2005, which provided the basis to deploy e-Banking systems and provide the licensing framework for South Asia’s first ever mobile payment system and comes with a wealth of experience in cyber security.

Sujit Christy, Director, Layers-7 Seguro Consultoria Ltd., is passionate about cybersecurity adoption. He will unveil the types of risk faced by organisations operating in a digital world, and show how governance and compliance can mitigate it. Calling on over 20 years in Governance, Risk Management, Compliance, Cybersecurity consulting, Financial & Information System auditing and ERP implementation, he will share practical, focused advice on creating an entire culture that minimises risk from the top.

Emerging Risk in Digital: Even with preparation, what specific threats could a business face? How can a company deal with a cyber threat and make sure that damage is minimal? What happens afterward? Vishal M Jain, Partner in the Risk Advisory function and leading the Digital Risk service offering for Deloitte India, will take on these questions, and more. During the 16 years of his advisory career, he has developed security strategy, ensured governance and lessened technology risk for businesses, expertise that he will share during his session.

Building on the lessons from the other speakers, Uantchern Loh, CEO, Asia Pacific, Black Sun PLC, will share his thoughts on risk management in the digital economy that has evolved. The modern finance role requires greater coordination between the various functions in a business, and a deeper understanding of the hazards it faces. With business models changing and financial services evolving, this need is more pronounced than ever before. As the founding Chief Executive of the Singapore Accountancy Commission, and an advocate of accountancy education, Loh will translate the concept of the dangers from the realm of technology, making them easily understood by finance and accounting professionals.

The overall picture of National Cyber Security will be given by Tan Wee Keong – Project Manager ST Electronics (Info-Security) Ltd. Singapore.
