For the first time in Sri Lanka the code-addicts, geeks and tech-enthusiasts get the chance to participate in a Coderetreat. This pioneering effort to build knowledge and expertise within the emerging software industry in Sri Lanka is a rare opportunity for our local tech-enthusiasts. The event is a stepping stone in the ICT industry in Sri Lanka and is the first step towards a new breed of programs designed to improve the knowledge of the already growing ICT professionals in the island. It is free of charge, accessible to all developers who wish to improve their coding standards.
A Coderetreat is where software developers work together on a single piece of code, over and over, with different partners, without the goal of a complete and functional piece of code. They will experiment with each other on different styles to help put proper coding practices to use, and learn from each other.
The ultimate objective being sharing knowledge and experience with each other to enrich the knowledge of the participants and in turn, the teams and companies they work for.
Johannes Brodwall (the facilitator) is a solution architect by day and a test-infected programmer by night. More importantly he is the chief scientist at Steria (www.steria.com) and a reputed tech-enthusiast. Johannes will be in the island to facilitate CodeRetreat Sri Lanka 2012. He is well experienced in facilitating such events.
The program theme for the event is as follows ‘during the week all developers’ code for money. At the retreat coding will be solely for the developer’s benefit, where he/she will learn and develop as professionals. This is an intensely technical and social event that will result in better skills, new energy for the job and a fun experience.”
