CSE Information Security Officer honoured with regional ISC2 awards

The Head of Information Security and Compliance at the Colombo Stock Exchange, Wasnatha Perera was honoured with two exclusive (ISC)² ISLA(Information Security Leadership Award) accolades at a ceremony in Beijing, China.

The ISLA program is held annually by (ISC)² in cooperation with the (ISC)² Asian Advisory Board to recognize outstanding leadership and achievement in workforce improvement of information security and management professionals in the Asia-Pacific region.The awards, which recognise distinguished information security leadership initiatives, was given at the eighth annual Asia-Pacific ISLA Program Gala Dinner and Ceremony at the Shangri la Hotel. The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)² is a non-profit organisation which specialises in information security education and certifications. It has been described as the “world’s largest IT security organisation” and has over 100,000 members worldwide. (ISC)² Colombo Chapter, the local representation of (ISC)² with more than 30 active members , is continuously involved in many volunteer activities related to cyber security, data protection and security education. The local chapter represents senior level security professionals from telecommunications, banking, finance and other various industries. Perera was honoured with two outstanding awards: The President’s Award 2014 and the honouree title in the Senior Information Security Professional category, for significantly contributing to the enhancement of the information security workforce by demonstrating a leadership role in ISC2 Colombo Chapter. Before the awards ceremony he was invited to an (ISC)² Asian Advisory Board (AAB) meeting to discuss various challenges in cyber security and the local chapter. “The majority of the credit should be received by the (ISC)² Colombo Chapter members for their excellent contribution towards various activities in the local community under my presidency,” Perera said. He added: “The demand for information security professionals has remained healthy despite the economy, and that’s the result of several factors, including Government regulation and a growing threat landscape. In some cases, however, the nature of the job is changing .The technical side is merging with the business side.” He invited everyone in the world to achieve the most respectable Information Security credentials in the world CISSP, CCFP, SSCP, CAP, CSSLP or HCISPP.
