Cyber Games 2014 - Gamers in action

The annual edition of Sri Lanka Cyber Games 2014 was held over three action and adrenaline-filled days from 19 to 21 December at the BMICH. Several teams and individuals competed against each other to claim victory as the national champion. The regional qualifiers were held in Kandy on 6 and 7 December at the Kandy City Center. The winners at this round participated in the finals in Colombo facing a challenging and toughest ever battle for the championship. Commenting on this year’s festival, Sri Lanka Cyber Game Organiser Raveen Wijayatilake said: “This year’s Sri Lanka Cyber Games was a monumental leap forward for video gaming, eSports, geek culture and digital entertainment in Sri Lanka. We are excited about the growth our industry has experienced over the past years, and look forward to take it to larger audiences in the future.” Cyber Games 2014 - Opening ceremony   This year’s Games attracted about 1,500 cyber athletes and over 10,000 spectators, while 70 gaming PCs were used with over 600 matches played. The tournament had 35 winners and runners-up with several awards presented in varied categories recognising individual players as well as clans for excellence in their field. Overall the top five clans received 11 titles including Phoenix Gaming who claimed the Best Clan award. Among the top award winners were PnX Gaming with three Gold and five Silver awards, Maximum eSports: two Gold and one Silver, Tech Morph Gaming: two Gold and one Silver, n00b Alliance: one Gold and one Silver and Xiphos eSports: one Gold and one Silver. Sri Lanka Cyber Games 2014 also served as the platform for gamers from around the country to get together, respecting and enjoying the e-game environment, exchange ideas and strategies whilst demonstrating their skills and forging life-long bonds of friendship. This year’s edition of the Games included the national eSports tournament for team and single players, Cosplay, which awarded prizes based on the ingenuity of participants dressing up in their favourite gaming character, RPG gaming featuring RPG and tabletop and mobile games. Organised by Gamer.Lk (www.gamer.lk), the games, founded by a group of enthusiastic gamers in 2008, is recognised as the largest digital entertainment and games festival in Sri Lanka. Participants include top-rated game players and teams from around the country. Gamers enjoyed high level game plays competing against the nation’s best players. Today the e-Sports scene in Sri Lanka is recognised as a competitive arena easily rivalling other tournaments in South Asia in size and quality. This year’s event sponsors included Dialog as the main event partner which has continued to add its strength in supporting the Sri Lankan gaming and e-Sports community. Other sponsors included Dell as Solutions partner, Co-sponsors of the event MAS and Coca-Cola, Pyxle as Digital Media Sponsor and README as Digital Media Partner. Radio and Television partners were Art TV and Sun FM.
