E-tel Curiosity i8 smartphone launched in Sri Lanka

A new smartphone from E-tel, the brand that has captured more than 25% of the smartphone market in Sri Lanka, has been launched by Brantel for users looking for the latest features and performance at a smart price. With its 5-inch 16 M multi-touch TFT capacitive screen, super-fast 1 GHz dual core processor with 4 GB ROM and 512 MB RAM and Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system, the E-tel Curiosity i8 is expected to expand the smart phone market further by driving conversions from basic and feature phones, the company said. Named after the Curiosity rover sent to Mars, the E-tel smartphone range currently comprises of the i4, i6 and i8, which offer smartphone capability to rival equivalent global marques at surprisingly affordable prices. The phone memory of the Curiosity i8 can be extended up to 32GB with a micro SD card. The 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled smart phone supports all multimedia and social media applications like Skype, YouTube, Facebook, Gmail and Google Chat and in addition to being GPS enabled with inbuilt Google Maps, comes with default access to Google Play Store to enable users to access and download a vast array of compatible applications. “E-tel phones are designed in Hong Kong and manufactured in three top ten ranked manufacturing facilities in China that produce branded smartphones for the European and US markets,” Brantel CEO Bishri Latiff said. “These manufacturing plants guarantee the same high level of quality, consistency and performance.” He said one of the key strengths of the E-tel brand has been its ability to offer the latest in technology without the price tag associated with building global brand equity. “As a result, the E-tel brand has become known for features, performance and looks that are on par with the best names in the business, with comprehensive aftersales support that is now acknowledged as among the best in Sri Lanka,” he said. E-tel phones are available in nearly 2000 dealer outlets in Sri Lanka and a Brantel owned aftersales service network of seven service centres in Colombo, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Matara, Negombo, Kurunegala and Ratnapura, Latiff added. Brantel has been in operation in Sri Lanka since 2004 and launched the E-tel brand in 2008. The E-tel brand has feature phones, touch phones and Smart Phones. E-tel has gained significant market share in the touch phone segment as well, rivalling established mainstream brands. The E-tel Curiosity i8 smartphone is priced at Rs. 22,900.
