The ‘e-Diriya,’ the national ICT literacy initiative, was officially inaugurated at the Kotiyakumbura Vidyasagara Pirivena Buddhist Temple premises in Kegalle at 10 a.m. on 26 November, under the patronage of Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Hambantota District MP Namal Rajapaksa.
The main objective of this initiative is to provide basic computer knowledge to Samurdhi recipients and schoolchildren from families having a low income. Kegalle District Samurdhi recipients and schoolchildren participated in this inauguration.
ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) Chairman Prof. P. W. Epasinghe says that under this initiative 50,000 persons are expected to be empowered with ICT literacy within a month.
The initiative, which has the full support of the Sri Lanka Samurdhi Authority and the Education Ministry, is implemented by ICTA under the e-Sri Lanka initiative.
