As the estimated annual cost of global cybercrime reaches $ 100 billion, more corporations, are falling foul of employee related computer crime. The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC) will be conducting a practical computer crime workshop to keep corporates informed about their legal rights and obligations. Last year 84% of the most serious data breaches in the world came from business premises, government institutions and medical facilities. Over one third of those breaches were committed by an employee of that organisation. Such crimes cost organisations over $ 100 billion a year. As Sri Lanka’s industries continue to invest heavily in the latest ICT, the EFC is mindful that there is a large knowledge gap with regards to employers’ rights and obligations when it comes to computer crime. With this in mind, the EFC will be a holding half day workshop on Computer Crimes and Employment at the ICA on 29 August 2014. The workshop will look at the laws relating to ICT in Sri Lanka as well the use of computer evidence in legal proceedings. It will also have, the EFC’s popular trademark, ‘Case Studies Session’ which will guide businesses on the practical handling of both ICT crimes and IT related employee misconduct, using examples based on actual cybercrime cases. The course will be conducted by Jayantha Fernando, Attorney at Law LLM who is a specialist in IT and Telecom Law, Sunil D.B. Abeyratne, JUPM, Attorney at Law, Chairman of the ICT Lawyers Guild of Sri Lanka and Rohan Chandraguptha, Senior Information Security Engineer, Sri Lanka, CERT. There are a limited number of seats available for the workshop. Anyone wishing to register can call Shenali Fernando on 286 7966 or email [email protected].
