Efficient governance using ICT

Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure (MTDI), ICTA and Sarvodaya Fusion (SF) met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last week to share duties/responsibilities and come up with innovative methods to complete the milestones laid down in the below two ICT commitments in the Open Government Partnership (OGP) national action plan.

1. Enhance the services of Government Information Centre (GIC 1919) for inclusive, transparent, accountable and efficient governance using IT as enabler.

2. Promote the Open Data Concept and delivering the benefits to citizens through ICT.

In keeping with the OGP ethos of transparent, accountability and public participation, the Government and civil society joint working committee, decided to open a Google document to share each other’s work in this regards for better visibility. The Government officers emphasised the importance of getting all the ministries and institutions to update their respective websites in order for GIC 1919 service to function effectively. 

OGP CSO coordinator Pushpi Weerakoon showing examples explained the effectiveness of using 2D animation info graphics to disseminate the information to the public and also discussed the ongoing development of the website to help citizens monitor the implementation with Waruna Dhanapala (Add secretary MTDI), Isura Silva (SF), Jayantha Fernando (Legal adviser ICTA) and Harim Pieris (OGP government coordinator).
