  • The first mobile operator to launch nationwide
superior technology for clearer conversations Etisalat Lanka, the leading mobile telecom innovator in Sri Lanka announced the launch of nationwide High Definition Voice Technology (HD Voice) for the first time in Sri Lanka, enabling the next stage of mobile phone connectivity in the country. The Sri Lankan mobile data market is expected to continue to grow over the next few years, yet the primary mode of communication to date is voice. As consumer interest in HD Audio and Video technology increases, the same technology forms the basis for providingHD Voice, the rapidly approaching future for voice calls. Etisalat’s HD Voice will use digital signal processing technology to capture and transmit higher-quality sound. As HD Voice works with a wider frequency, excess noise is stripped outenabling the voice to be clearer, capturing its natural variations that are not detected in traditional audio standards. Overall, the use of HD Voice technology enables to filter the background noise and allows the caller to hear a clearer and crisp voice. “Superior audio quality does not have to be an expensive solution, as amatter of fact it is offered free to all our Etisalat customers,” said Etisalat Lanka Acting Chief Executive Officer Wail Salman.” Using any HD Voice compatible phone, the technology expands the audio frequency range, very close to the true human speech range, isolating the voice from the audio spectrumto make it much clearer and natural to the listener.” He added, “This call clarity can be seamlessly experienced by any of our customers. To benefit from this feature, both the caller and the receiver should be connected to our cutting-edge3G network and the mobile devices should be HD compatible.” The clarity and reduced interference with HD Voice will allow calls in noisy environments, where normal calls would simply not be feasible.Etisalat HD Voice will further have a direct benefit for local businesses. Etisalat Lanka Chief Commercial Officer Janaka Jayalath added, “The call center operations industry globally is adapting HD Voice services to enhance customer experience, improve voice recognition, minimise repetition and reduce overall duration of each call. Similarly voice biometrics, dictation, transcription, call recording, and speech analytics engines also yield more accurate results with HD Voice due to the improved sound quality, making it easier to distinguish between similar sounding words, numbers, or letters.” With Etisalat HD Voice more productive conference calls are also possible. During a conference call over traditional telephone lines, participants often struggle to comprehend who is talking or to understand speakers with different accents. Misunderstandings are common, faint talkers are lost, static and background noise can all render parts of the conversation unintelligible. Those problems are almost nonexistent with HD Voice. Over 300 varieties of smartphonesare currently available in the Sri Lankan market that support and are compatible with the HD Voice technology. Users can confirm their phone compatibility by checking the handset manufacturer’s web site or the handset technical specifications manual. HD Voice is currently available in 71 countries, with 22 countries having at least two mobile HD voice operators and is rapidly growing in demand. Etisalat Lanka is the first mobile operator to offer seamless nationwide HD Voice technology in Sri Lanka. In 2012, upgrading its mobile broadband infrastructure to use Dual Carrier HSPA+ technology that supports internet speeds up to 42 Mbps enables Etisalat Lanka to effectively meet the needs in the domain of internet speeds and HD Voice – making it a superior nationwide telecommunication network in Sri Lanka.
