First-ever ILS in Sri Lanka a huge success

Creates multiple business opportunities and achieves core objectives of vendors and participants

Mumbai: UBM India, the B2B media and exhibitions company, recently organised its inaugural overseas edition of the security Systems Integrators’ Leadership Series (ILS) 2013 successfully at the Galadari, Colombo in Sri Lanka on 25 July under the umbrella of IFSEC India, the largest security exhibition in India. All local arrangements were co-ordinated by Global Events and Convention Services, Sri Lanka. The evening seminar included technology sessions, a panel discussion and vendor sessions amongst others. The conference had best minds from the industry and the domain discussing relevant issues and future strategies. The first-of-its-kind conference in Colombo was a confluence of industry leaders and the practitioners from the industry. It turned out to be the most influential platform to network and engage with nearly 100 leading System Integrators of Sri Lanka. It was strategically planned to create multiple networking and interaction opportunities to achieve and optimise SI engagement objectives. The conference was supported by CP Plus, Milestones and Allied Telesis. Joji George, Managing Director, UBM India, said: “It gives us immense pleasure in bringing the ILS event to Sri Lanka. The Colombo event, helped realise the great opportunities for the SIs community to connect with technology providers. The ILS event turned out to be a perfect platform for SIs and vendors equally. The vendor community were able to generate numerous business queries and close on-the-spot business deals.” The Sri Lankan industry turned out in large numbers. Athula Perera, Director of Sri Lanka’s Metropolitan Computers, stated: “It was a great event with more value for security professionals that best fits into the current demand in the country with ICT sector.” Mario Perumal, Director, M3 Force, was quite optimistic from a SI perspective: “It was a very well organised event. Good product presentations by the three companies showcasing what they are capable of. From a SI’s point of view it was useful to see three complementary products presented to show an end to end solution.” Elated by the response Anand Swaminathan, Vice President, CP PLUS, said: “I think the quality of integrators was very good and I was quite surprised to know that most of the integrators were from IT background and had a good knowledge base and they were responding to our presentation well. The overall quality of the programme was excellent. Sri Lanka seems to be an exciting market. This ILS platform proved its worth and it indeed shows the future prospect of the Sri Lankan market. This first-ever ILS will set a trend for future engagements with the industry.” Sandesh Kaup, Senior Business Manager, Milestone Systems, said: “Currently, we see considerable investments from the Sri Lankan Government and private sectors. UBM ILS show in Sri Lanka was at the right time. It gave Milestone a very good platform to showcase our products and our plans of investing in training and educating the customers in Sri Lanka. The outcome of this show has induced excitement amongst system integrators for IP-based Video Surveillance in Sri Lanka.” According to Anand TN, BDM, Allied Telesis India: “The event was well organised and gave us an opportunity to interact with the emerging market in video surveillance like Sri Lanka and we found the integrators in Sri Lanka truly understand the technology subject of all the aspects of an IP-based video surveillance system. It was great being a part of this innovative forum.” The panel discussion on ‘Analogue or IP: How To Go About It?’ turned out to be lively and interesting. Panellists were Mahesh Perera, Head of ICT, Parliament of Sri Lanka, Udana Wickramasinghe, Director – ICT, Sri Lanka Tourism, Chandev W. Abhayaratne, MD, Fentons, Mohd. Ilyas Zargar, General Manager, Technical, CP PLUS and Anand TN, BDM, Allied Telesis India, while Anand Swaminathan, Vice President, CP PLUS moderated the discussion. The panellists also touched upon important topics like seamless transport security, urban surveillance for safer cities, new age surveillance supplementing traditional security, in detail. The need for standards, regulations and compliance in the India industry for effective results were discussed.
