GE buys top supply chain software provider ShipXpress

  • Big boost for ShipXpress whose technology and marketing wing is based in Colombo

GE Transportation, the world’s leading producer of rail and transportation-related products and offerings, has announced its acquisition of ShipXpress, a top provider of cloud-based software solutions that enable transportation, industrial, and commodities businesses to efficiently operate with supply chain partners.

ShipXpress was founded 16 years ago by a few people with great ideas and has grown into an industry-leading business.

ShipXpress began its international expansion in 2005, by establishing an office in Colombo. The company claims growth in excess of 50% thus far in 2016, which is expected to continue and accelerate further. Currently the company employs over 200 professionals. ShipXpress is headquartered in Neptune Beach, Florida, USA, while its technology and marketing wing is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka.  All the technological developments, sales, and marketing processes are managed from Colombo. The acquisition extends GE Transportation’s portfolio of solutions into the logistics value chain, giving it new offerings for shippers, and expanding its ability to deliver information and transaction services for railroad customers around the world. This acquisition also deepens GE Transportation’s domain expertise, enriching the division with a talent pool of nearly 200 industry, technical, and software development experts.
