Huawei donates high-tech e-education system for rural schools

Huawei, the leading global ICT solutions provider announced that President Mahinda Rajapaksa held a meeting with Chairwoman Sun Yafang during the Head of State’s official visit to the CICA conference in Shanghai. Huawei, as the largest telecom vendor in Sri Lanka, has been in operation for nearly a decade. Huawei officially launched its consumer device since June 2012 introducing economical smart phones to the Sri Lankan consumers; and entered into Enterprise business segment in January of 2014 diversifying in to the latest e-government solutions. Huawei is supporting the delivery of Sri Lanka national backbone through deploying a telecom network with faster internet speed and quality voice communication. This project will enhance the e-Sri Lanka project in terms of providing access for communication and bridging the digital gap contributing to the informationisation of Sri Lanka. Yafang said, “Sri Lanka, as one of the fast-growing economies in Asia, is an attractive business market. Huawei is willing to share the best practices of informationisation with Sri Lanka, applying the wealth of knowledge and ICT leadership amalgamated through many case studies followed by other growing economies. Focus on the ICT talent training and accelerating mobile broadband deployment are key areas which can benefit the local citizens, especially for people living in the rural areas.” Huawei continuously focus on fulfilling its corporate social responsibility, particularly in the Sri Lanka distance learning development programs which can enable youth in remote areas to gain access to the best on-line education. It is currently in negotiation with local universities in the area of ICT training which will further help the younger generation to gain industry knowledge in technical support in a high value-added and competitive industry. Expressing their goodwill and future focus, they have decided to donate three sets of e-education system with 50 Ascend X1 terminals as a learning tool for local schools for the development of ICT training programs and the future generations in line with the Government’s ICT development vision. President Rajapaksa appreciated the contribution from Huawei for all local ICT development initiatives and agreed with Huawei to further hold discussions on informationisation of the Sri Lankan Government.
