ICTA calls on public to provide IT-related information

The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) requests the public to offer their cooperation by providing the relevant basic information regarding information technology at the population and housing census.

ICTA Chairman Professor P. W. Epasinghe points out that providing this data will be very useful for preparing the future development plans and enable the Government to implement the country’s  IT activities  in a fruitful and meaningful manner.

Census officials are visiting houses these days for collecting information for the population and housing census islandwide.

ICTA says that several basic questions with regard to IT are also included in the questionnaire directed at the inmates of houses.

One of the main questions in the questionnaire is whether each one of the inmates of the house possesses the ability to use a computer.  ICTA emphasises that what is intended by ‘the ability to use a computer’ is only the ability to operate a computer and do a simple task using a computer.

Professor Epasinghe points out that doing a simple task by using a computer is considered as computer literacy like the ability to speak, read and write.

In addition several questions regarding mobile phones, computer accessories and internet connectivity owned by the inmates are included in the population and housing census.  The ICTA Chairman appeals to the public to offer their cooperation to the census officers by providing answers to the said questions and furnishing relevant information about the method of entry to internet.
