ICTA-initiated pavilion at MWC 2013 Barcelona yields huge dividends

The Sri Lanka country pavilion at Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, Spain recently (25-28 February) has yielded positive dividends, says the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA).



The Sri Lankan companies including Fidenz, Informatics, Mylinex, Orik and Wavenet are confident of their future highly positive business prospects emanating from the Congress.

Five Sri Lankan companies showcased their mobile solutions under the Sri Lankan pavilion organised by ICTA under its Private Sector Development Program. This was the first time Sri Lanka set up a country pavilion at the Mobile World Congress.

The participant Sri Lankan companies were very happy with the arrangements made and were very positive of their prospects of future businesses consequent upon this event. The event included learning and networking opportunities, product showcases, inspiration and innovation.

As a novelty, Sri Lankan tea was served to visitors at the stand which was sponsored by Mlesna. This attracted many who wanted to taste a cup of the hot local brew in the otherwise very cold temperatures that prevailed in Barcelona during the Congress. The attendees with a total headcount of more than 72,000 were impressed with the Sri Lankan service offerings and the cutting edge solutions displayed by the Sri Lankan companies.

The GSMA Mobile World Congress is a combination of the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry and a conference featuring prominent executives representing the mobile sector. Organised by the GSMA, GSM (Groupe Spéciale Mobile) Association, GSMAMobile World Congress represents mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors and content owners from across the world.

Held for the first time in 1987, the congress drew more than 60,000 visitors to the venue in Barcelona, the largest metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea. Catalonia, Spain in 2011. In that year Anne Bouverot was appointed as GSMA’s Director General and GSMA selected Barcelona as the Mobile World Capital.
