The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) will launch the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders Program in Colombo on Tuesday (3 September) with Deputy Speaker Chaminda Weerakkody as Guest of Honour. The launch ceremony will also kick off a four day workshop for government officials and academics from 3rd to 6th instant at the Hilton Residencies. The workshop will provide initial training to participants on two of the Academy’s 11 modules, namely Module 3 – e-Government Applications and Module 6 Network and Information Security and Privacy. ICTA selected these modules as those relevant to the country’s requirement. “With this inauguration Sri Lanka will join the group of over 25 countries where the academy functions as a flagship initiative of  the use of ICT for smarter governance,” ICTA Chairman Professor P.W. Epasinghe said. It is an initiative of the United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT). The academy aims to equip Government officials and policymakers with the essential knowledge and skills to leverage ICT for national and regional socio-economic development. The objective of delivering the UN APCICT academy modules in Sri Lanka is to strengthen the ICT knowledge of Government officers and to help create the required e-Leadership for smarter governance. Participants will be 40 Government officers who are actively involved in eGovernment activities and a few members from the academia and the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA). These will be able to deliver this content to the wider stakeholder audience. ICTA as the focal point for UN APCICT in Sri Lanka invited APCICT to launch the Academy in Sri Lanka. APCICT agreed to support ICTA by inviting the authors of the respective modules to Sri Lanka to conduct the training program. The ICTA has organised this inaugural workshop in collaboration with APCICT. After the inaugural workshop, ICTA will ensure the delivery of these modules to Government officers through the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) induction program for members of Sri Lanka all-island services (such as SLAS, Planning, and Accountant’s service). There will be a partnership agreement between ICTA and UN APCICT in delivering this content in Sri Lanka through selected training providers.
