The 14th International Conference on Advances in ICT for Emerging Regions 2013 (ICTer), organised by the University Of Colombo (UOC) with the involvement of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional society, will take place from 11 to 14 December.
The main conference will take place on 12 and 13 December 2013 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), whereas its workshops and tutorial sessions will be held on 11 and 14 December at the University Of Colombo School Of Computing (UCSC).
The conference expects an audience of approximately 200 participants and targets those who are interest in the field of ICT.
The keynote address will be delivered by National Central University Taiwan Prof. Timothy K. Shih, who with speak on the topic ‘Video Forgery and Motion Editing’.
The conference will also feature seven other eminent speakers, including Shimane University Japan Prof. Masahito Hirakawa, Stockholm University Sweden Prof. Robert Ramberg, Nanyang Technological University Singapore Prof. May Oo Lwin, University of Western Sydney Australia Prof. Athula Ginige, Indian Statistical Institute India Prof. Umapada Pal, University of Mumbai India Dr. Sushil Kulkarni and University of Southampton UK Prof. Mahesan Niranjan.
In addition to the presentations from international speakers, the conference will also review research papers in ICT area.
UCSC Senior Lecturer in Computer Science/ICTer 2013 Conference Chair Dr. K. P. Hewagamage said at a press conference yesterday that an objective of the conference is to provide publicity to the ICT research and development work that has taken place in the country.
“Our intention is to provide international exposure to the research papers. With IEEE coming in, this will be done as all research papers submitted will be published on the IEEE explorer, an international digital library,” he said.
ICTer 2013 has received 112 submissions, out of which only 40 papers will be accepted.
The papers will be reviewed by experts in the domain according to Dr. Hewagamage, and will be published in a special edition of the ICTer journal, which has a global audience.
