Sri Lanka’s premier IT and business higher education body - Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) announced that it has received ISO 9001:2008 certification of its Quality Management System. This certification attests to the fact that IIT has fully deployed a Quality Management System (QMS) that operates in accordance with the Total Quality Management (TQM) standards embodied in ISO’s internationally recognised criteria. ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for a quality management system where a company needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that aims to enhance customer satisfaction, including processes for continual improvement of the system, and the motivation and implication of the top management. ISO 9001:2008 helps ensure that customers get consistent, good quality products and services, which in turn brings many business benefits. Attaining ISO 9001:2008 involved a rigorous self-evaluation process undertaken over the course of eight months during which IIT fully assessed its quality system and procedures. Conducted in Consultation by KPMG and Audited by DNV (Det Norske VERITAS) included a detailed assessment of the company’s facilities. Interviews were carried out with the management and employees, and procedures were reviewed across all functional areas, including operations, training and development, customer complaint handling, finance and billing. Informatics Group Managing Director Hiran Wickramasinghe stated that successfully completing the rigorous process required for ISO 9001:2008 certification is a clear sign that IIT is committed to superior product quality and customer satisfaction. “The continuous audits both internal and external have proved to be very relevant and constructive in helping us with our aim to improve the educational standards at our institute and the support that are given to our students. ISO certification is all about an attitude and commitment toward our customers, in this case our students. As our business and our customer base continue to grow, we feel this is one measure to show our continuous effort to maintain a high standard of quality in the private higher education sector,” he said. “We are very pleased to have received this prestigious certification which verifies that we are applying best practices to measure and deliver quality products and services to our clients. The ultimate achievement of this goal was made possible through the participation of all employees at every level of the organisation. We will continue to persevere to improve and maintain the highest quality in the services we provide and the work we deliver to our customers,” Informatics Group Director Hasith Wickramasinghe added.
