Popular Sri Lankan ICT exposition INFOTEL will be opening its 2013 edition to the public for three days from 24 to 27 October at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre according to organisers the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS).

The Organising Committee Chairman, Managing Director of Sala Enterprises Chinthaka Wijewickrema, revealed that the event was expecting about 30,000 visitors, and had added many new categories, that included healthcare, education, tourism and agriculture. Wijewickrema noted that since these industries now played a key role in the business arena and were aggressively growing, the committee had decided that it was essential to showcase how IT can be best utilised to improve the efficiency of these industries, hence its inclusion in this year’s INFOTEL. In addition INFOTEL also hopes to feature up to 220 stalls in categories such as hardware, software, systems integration, back process outsourcing, office automation, communications, training, electronic media and gaming.

Elaborating further Wijewickrema stated: “This year’s INFOTEL will be unique as it will not be limited to a showcase of  ICT product and gadgets but will be one of international standards and a meeting place for corporates, buyers, sellers, recruiting companies, career seekers and IT enthusiasts alike.” He added that INFOTEL would offer the opportunity for organisations the world over to participate in having their stalls and products displayed at this event. He therefore urged Sri Lankan companies to make the maximum use of this opportunity to market, create awareness and promote products to international markets. INFOTEL will also take place concurrently with the World Summit Awards organised by ICTA.

Wijewickrema pointed out: “Infotel 2013 offers an ideal platform for ICT stakeholders in Sri Lanka and other international countries to explore and capitalise the new growth and wealth creation opportunities in the country. With Sri Lanka poised to be an IT hub in the region, INFOTEL 2013 will be more focused towards the country’s national growth. Today IT has become a core factor in any type of growth industry which can range from a very small business enterprise to that of a top corporate. In the future, hence the area of IT will be the main driving force behind the country’s growth and it is hoped that this year’s exhibition can position Sri Lankan products to the outside world. Therefore, the key objective of the exhibition is to mobilise in creating a “Knowledge Hub” and ICT related exports.
