01Infotel is Sri Lanka’s premier national ICT exposition and conference, organised and hosted by the Federation of IT Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) which will commence on 1 November till 5 November. This year marks the 25th anniversary of FITIS and Infotel.

The flagship event of FITIS will transform to take a novel and different approach than any of its predecessor events with the primary objective being, focus on technology to achieve current and future needs of business and government.

Infotel 2017, will mark the adoption of the theme ‘25 Years and Beyond – Towards a Digital Economy’ and aims to bring together the various stakeholders in the industry from services, hardware, software, policy makers and telecommunication personnel. This year will also be marked by the introduction of 8sectors that will play a pivotal part in transitioning towards a digital economy.

“Infotel 2017 will be the first time Infotel as an exhibition will base itself on a sector based approach. The eight sectors namely, Agriculture and Environment, Logistics and Transport, Health, Education and training, Telecommunication and Networking, Trading and Manufacturing, Power and Energy and Banking and Finance, will be the pillars of digitisation of Sri Lankan economy. We believe firmly that key to transitioning towards a digital economy lies in disrupting and innovating practices of these key sectors and with a sector based approach this year, stakeholders of various industries can collaborate towards increasing each sector’s output by integration of digital technologies,” commented FITIS Chairman Dr. Kithsiri Manchanayakke.

Infotel 2017 aims to encourage the ICT industry of Sri Lanka, to produce solutions that will make a lasting impact in these fields and to enable this, stakeholders of various sectors will be present to facilitate an inclusive dialogue of the progress made by such sectors and the requirements for the sector moving forward. This will set the base for a sustainable development programme for all sectors, as the ICT industry will be working closely with the sectors to identify and develop solutions that aim to uplift the sectors in the long term.

Dr. Manchnayakke who has been involved in Infotel activities over the years commented, “Infotel has always been a platform where various ICT industry professionals and organisation were given a chance to showcase their immense potential and enabled the general public to reach the benefits of the entire industry under one roof. However, with the rapid focus on digitalisation of the economy, the sector based approach is set to mark something truly special as it will for the first time enable a larger section of the wider economy being represented in Infotel and we look towards finding solutions that will help both to fine tune potential of the ICT industry as well as uplift each of these sectors with the power of technology.”

Infotel 2017 will also host of a number of events during the five days, which will cater to both the visitors and the exhibitors. As with many past years, Infotel is set to draw a record crowd as the premier exposition and conference in the country as well as due to rapidly growing interest regarding technology.

The CXO event will provide a forum for discussion among leaders in technology, while the Conference provides participants an opportunity to listen to global experts and consultants. The exhibition is designed to provide the market leadership required for our country to attract multinational technology organisations to invest and contribute to our development.

Dr. Manchanayakke said, “It is extremely pleasing to the conference that we started 25 years ago has come this far. This year will become a milestone as it will mark the first step of the journey towards making Sri Lankan, a digital economy. We have received immense interest for this year’s exposition and conference, which is an indication that we are making effective change with regard to the digitalisation of the economy. It is our hope that Infotel 2017 will become a facilitator for collaboration between various sectors towards uplifting Sri Lanka. To this end we are also pleased to work with many institutions and partners who have joined hands with us towards achieving this goal and we invite you to attend Infotel 2017 and experience the difference.
