Janashakthi launched the first phase of its homegrown, integrated IT platform, which streamlines insurance applications to facilitate all stakeholders. The company’s consolidated branch network is linked to a single platform, thus offering customers and employees hassle free access to information and flexibility to carry out transactions. This virtual platform has increased productivity, efficiency and created a paperless business process that benefits customers and employees alike. “Kudos to our IT team. They have developed a platform that provides best suited solutions to various requirements of our stakeholders. Especially as it is a homegrown solution, we have been able to meet the exact requirements of our customers and consolidate all aspects of our services,” said Prakash Schaffter, Managing Director of Janashakthi. Janashakthi was one of the industry firsts to use a windows based system from inception.  The company recently introduced an in house developed document management system replacing the previous system. The new system is integrated into all relevant insurance applications. In 2012, Janashakthi won an Asian Insurance Technology award for the innovative Geographical Information System (GIS) that maps local geographical data and assesses its insurance risk. In operation since July 2010, the Janashakthi GIS solution blends core insurance application data with publicly available GIS services through Google maps. Janashakthi applications and software are backed by a user friendly interface and a customizable process. This enables customers and employees a chance to easily navigate pages, gather information, analyse data online and perform transactions. “We have created apps for mobile phones and any internet enabled devices to service our customers better. The GPS enabled Janashakthi mobile apps allow our assessors to track exact geographical locations of a customer in case of a vehicle accident. The Janashakthi SMS system has helped to build a faster and a two way communication link between our customers and employees,” said Thilak Vithanage, Assistant General Manager IT, Janashakthi Insurance. The new Janashakthi interactive IT platform will provide online services in English, Sinhala and Tamil. In business for nearly decades, Janashakthi Insurance posted record profits of Rs. 800 million for 2012, and a consolidated Gross Written Premium of Rs. 7,985 million. Janashakthi has paid out over Rs. 20 billion in claims and it is known as one of the attractive companies for employer benefits and human capital development. It has spent over Rs. 60 million in training both locally and internationally as it pursues its co-strategy: ‘The smartest, most caring and ethical sales person in the insurance industry.’
