Lanka Bell advanced its 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) connectivity with a next-generation IP-MPLS network implemented by KBSL Information Technologies, to deliver more cost effective and reliable services to the company’s 1,000,000 subscriber base. Established in 1997, Lanka Bell provides state-of-the-art voice and data solutions to both its residential and business clientele. The homegrown Telco launched 4G LTE in February 2014, thereby joining the national effort to advance the nation’s digital economy with enhanced connectivity solutions and technology. It has seen rapid growth in its user base since then. Lanka Bell Managing Director Dr. Prasad Samarasinghe said: “We’ve seen record growth in network traffic since we launched 4G LTE and realised the need for redesigning the existing infrastructure and network to support this growth.” KBSL Information Technologies, an IT Systems Integrator with over three decades of industry experience analysed the existing infrastructure and created a custom next-generation network (NGN) design to meet Lanka Bell’s growing needs. Utilising a range of Juniper MX series platforms for the core and ACX for the aggregation, the design enhances both cost-effectiveness and reliability and offers consistent services to Lanka Bell customers by increasing network redundancy. The solution also offers adaptation and scalability for future growth. “The new system is designed for high performance while the network design, management and service delivery have been significantly simplified,” said KBSL CEO Silmy Ahamed. “We’ve also ensured that the NGN is scalable in anticipation of future growth in the Lanka Bell network.” The new 10GbE network provided a massive capacity increase, and has enabled Lanka Bell to meet customers’ growing demand for broadband services and also roll out new services such as business-class virtual private networks (VPNs) and Carrier-Grade Wireless Solutions. “Since 1997 our goal has always been to identify and meet customer needs by providing cutting-edge next generation technology solutions, whether it was pioneering CDMA technology in Sri Lanka a decade ago or introducing Bell Enterprise Solution Technology (BEST), thus offering a specialised suite of enterprise telecommunication solutions. We are confident that the new system deployed by KBSL will help us achieve our goal,” Dr. Samarasinghe added
