As a part of its objective to make internet connectivity available and affordable to all Sri Lankans, Telecom Giant Lanka Bell has introduced a variety of Broadband packages to suit the needs of all segments of Sri Lankan society.
The eight new tariff plans will give the consumer the choice of selecting an option according to his/her requirement while enjoying 24 hour uninterrupted connectivity.
Managing Director Prasad Samarasinghe said: “Lanka Bell has over the years provided communication solutions at attractive rates whether it’s through voice or data related services. We don’t believe in discriminating the availability of our product by offering it to only certain segments of society as we believe all citizens of this country should have an equal opportunity to select what is best for them.”
“For instance, our Swift Light Package gives customers a 10GB volume capacity with a download speed of 1 Mbps at a rental of just Rs. 500 per month which is easily the lowest data package in the market and suited to meet the needs of residential customers. Similarly at other the end of the spectrum the Laser Platinum package is ideal for SME customers who can obtain a 4 Mbps connection with a 15GB volume capacity per month at a monthly rental of just Rs. 1,950.”
Customers will also be encouraged to know that broadband speed test results published by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) have revealed that Lanka Bell’s broadband service is the fastest and the most consistent fixed broadband in the country for the bandwidths of 512 Kbps and 2 Mbps.
Moreover, TRCSL’s findings indicated that, while having the highest download speeds in these bandwidths, Lanka Bell’s download speeds were also consistently proven to be the nearest-to-theoretical download speeds advertised.
This superior performance is attributable to Lanka Bell being the leading partner in Sri Lanka of the FLAG fiber optic submarine cable, which resulted in an infrastructure investment in the terabit-capacity FALCON undersea cable to the tune of US$ 27 million.
The investment not only saw the upgrading of Lanka Bell’s infrastructure but more importantly resulted in the upgrade of Sri Lanka’s national infrastructure by virtue of providing access to an international gateway owned and operated by a totally separate private sector business entity.
Consequently, Sri Lanka has become more attractive as a destination for the BPO market, particularly for those requiring the high levels of reliability and speed in terms of connectivity.
This access to a submarine cable system that literally spans the globe, has significantly improved Sri Lanka’s connectivity to the world. It also demonstrates Lanka Bell’s commitment to national growth through improved international connectivity, given that the internet is the new driver of economic growth globally.
Lanka Bell is proud to be the only Sri Lankan company in the telecommunications sector with sole national ownership. Further, Lanka Bell remains the largest CDMA ‘fixed line’ provider in the country with over 1.3 million subscribers.
The company, established in 1997, was the pioneer of CDMA technology in the country and has over 60 fully fledged business offices island-wide. The company has not, does not, and will not rest in its quest to make substantial investment with the aim of taking its technology and services to every geographical region and segment of Sri Lankan society.
