DCS International yesterday introduced the latest version of ESET antivirus software ESET Smart Security 5 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 to the local market.
DCS International, ESET’s exclusive representative for Sri Lanka, stated that with information security becoming an increasing demand in the market where malware and viruses are spreading its danger across systems, ESET products would help local consumers to mitigate such risks.
ESET, known to be one of the world’s leading antivirus companies, launched its products in Sri Lanka officially in 2010 and has gained a 12% market share within a one-year period.
Hoping for a 25% market share by the end of 2011, ESET has been in the forefront of developing antivirus software for locally developed viruses such as ‘Mahasona,’ ‘Kathra’ and ‘Reeriyaka’.
With a client base consisting of big names in the corporate world such as the Commercial Bank where more than 4,000 licensing has been done, Pan Asia bank, Abans, Expolanka, Cargills, Lanka Hospitals, etc, the company is positive of a steady growth in the market within the next few years.
The newly-launched ESET products offer several new and improved features, the primary addition being the parental control module. Sales Manager APAC East Asia John Laloussis stated that global research compiled during April-May this year showed, 50% of the internet material consists of unsuitable material for children.
“ESET is the world’s fastest and effective antivirus software,” he said. “With a 524% growth during the past five years and 1077 million users worldwide it is safe to say that the products will help Sri Lanka mitigate increasing risks due to many viruses.”
Parental control protects younger users from sites that may contain potentially offensive material. Users can set up a ‘role’ for separate accounts each with its own set of default website categories that are allowed or blocked during browsing.
The new software also contains features such as ESET Live Grid, a cloud based reputation and protection technology, new removable media control allowing greater control of external devices, Advanced Host-based Intrusion Prevention Systems (HIPS) and Gamer Mode.
“With cyber crime on the increase and global as well as local hackers creating newer, more complex viruses it has become increasingly important to protect information by detecting and quarantining the threats before they cause irreparable damage.”
Laloussis stated that the new products are armed to take on any deadly virus hackers create.
“It doesn’t matter how developed or underdeveloped a country is,” Director of DCS Shihan Annon said. “Local government sector has been under attack from viruses and has drawn concern from the government. In the local finance sector there have been many attacks during the past two months and as a result financial institutions have lost millions.”
Achieving a 200% growth within a single year, DCS has an active channel partner business numbering more than 50 and a corporate penetration of 50%.
