Lanka BPO Academy has organised a training programme to certify managers and supervisors at BPO and related organisations in Sri Lanka. This is the first time that senior professionals in Sri Lankan BPO, customer service, call centre and shared service organisations get an  opportunity of being certified at global level as well as getting professional recognition for their hard-earned experience.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is about carrying out business activities for international organisations from Sri Lanka. This industry generates foreign exchange as well as creates thousands of well paying professional jobs.

Large diversified conglomerates have outsourced their work to its own specialised captive subsidiaries that act like BPOs as well.

Lanka BPO Academy (www.lankabpoacademy.lk) is offering a certification for managers and supervisors at BPOs, customer service organisations and call centres regardless of their specialisation for the first time in Sri Lankan history.

The certification body offering the certification is BPO Certifications Institute (BCI). BCI (www.bpocertifications.com) is the world’s largest competency certification organisation. BCI certifications are offered in 40+ countries.

CEO of Lanka BPO Academy Yasas Vishuddhi Abeywickrama said that the certification training programme will be held in early May this year. He also explained that BPO professionals so far did not have proper ongoing professional development and this programme offered for those who hold supervisory roles at such organisations would solve that problem.

Lanka BPO Academy Managing Partner Dharshana Illamperuma said that in most countries with a mature BPO industry, the organisations are suffering from “middle management crisis” which is created by scarcity of rightly competent middle managers. CBOM certification will help the industry to battle through this by injecting the competence and skills required.

Ravi Anantha from DST Worldwide Services India Pvt. Ltd. in India has had his staff certified with CBOM and he said: “This certification from BCI enhanced our BPO managers’ competency level to be expert. This certification has been a value add for our BPO manager in terms of managing day to day BPO operations.”
