Being a telecoms veteran, Etisalat’s Chief Commercial Officer Robert Lee is of the view that low prices in Sri Lanka remain a concern apart from the industry having too many players.

“Five is too many operators. Global experience has shown three is a stable and healthy number,” he claimed noting that in a scenario of five the last two don’t fare really well. This, according to him, leads to unhealthy competition.

He also said low price in the short term benefits consumer but it is detrimental to the industry in the long run as there is less cash to be invested on the network and upgrading.
