Mobitel hosts ‘Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka 2017’ for the 4th time in Sri Lanka

The National Mobile Service Provider, Mobitel will be hosting the extended event of the much anticipated Google I/O 2017 event for the 4th time in Sri Lanka. Google I/O is an annual developer event and the extended events bring local developer communities together to experience the I/O keynote and sessions with one another in real time, around the globe. 

Mobitel hosted the first ever Google I/O Extended event in Sri Lanka in 2013 and followed hosting the event as Google I/O extended Sri Lanka annually for two consecutive years afterwards with resounding success. All the events concluded with an overwhelming participation of over 3000 Googlers from around the country.

Google I/O Extended 2017 will be hosted by Mobitel on the 17th of May 2017 and will be held at the Stein Studio in Rathmalana. The participants of the event will comprise a large number of developers, ICT professionals, industry leaders, university students and young tech-savvy innovators. It will be an exciting and interactive overnight event with a live stream of the keynote from San Francisco focused on the next generation of technology, mobile and beyond including local presenters and many more tech related sessions as well. The event will also have other entertainment acts, refreshments for all who participate and also a raffle draw where one lucky participant will be sent to CommunicAsia 2017 held in Singapore from Mobitel. 

Mobitel will also be conducting a competition parallel to the Google I/O 2017 Extended event under the theme “Inspire Sri Lanka” which is an islandwide competition for innovators who are passionate about utilizing technology for a better tomorrow. In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) program this will be an opportunity for all who participate to contribute toward sending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity for all with technology. This competition will promote the advancement of mix-mode solutions which comprise of both hardware and software alike, while encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship among young developers. The winning team will stand a chance to win 3 travel packages to visit CommunicAsia 2017 on 23rd-25thMay at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Google I/O is an annual developer-focused conference held by Google in San Francisco, USA, featuring a wide range of highly technical, in-depth sessions focused on building web, mobile, and enterprise applications with Google and open web technologies such as Android, Chrome, Chrome OS, Google APIs, Google Web Toolkit, and App Engine and Google related technologies, including information on new products and upgrades to existing products. Since participation for the main event in USA is strictly limited, Google I/O events have been extended to other countries worldwide for the benefit of developers on a global scale.
