Great interest was shown by students from various universities and higher education institutes all across the island, many of whom attended the launch. The Firefox browser, first launched in 2004, over the years has built up quite the following, with users from almost every country, and is popularly known as being a ‘stable’ browser. The latest launch debuted a Firefox with a brand new look, completely redesigned from its previous versions. At the launch, the Mozilla Sri Lanka community showcased the new features incorporated into the new Firefox and narrated the successful journey that the Mozilla Foundation has enjoyed since its inception, presenting a few of the milestones achieved by the Foundation as well. A fact stressed on during the presentation was that Mozilla is not merely concerned with being the speediest browser around, but about making it the safest browser available. It was this focus that saw Mozilla Firefox being named ‘The Most Trusted Internet Company In Privacy’ in 2013. It showed the interested onlookers how to build web apps and the presenters also spoke of the frameworks used in the industry to facilitate these. It was a highly useful knowledge-sharing session as cutting-edge technology and upcoming frameworks were all part of the interactive discussions. The presenters also demonstrated a few web apps that have already been implemented, which made a great impression on many of the students present who showed a keen interest in developing web apps for Firefox mobile. A cake was cut in celebration of the new Firefox launch in the presence of the Mozilla fans and the event also featured a Twitter challenge, with winners being rewarded with Mozilla souvenirs.
