Muhunthan Canagey appointed as CEO of ICTA

Muhunthan Canagey will assume duties as the Chief Executive Officer of the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), which was founded under the vision of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. He has been appointed in order to widen the role of ICTA in the public and private sector, and initiate and implement the national ICT policy, which will also include contributing to reforms, innovation, and ushering in new opportunities for the local ICT industry. He will spearhead the agency in terms of enhancing ICT in public services by introducing new initiatives in the public sector and building relationships for public-private sector participation. Sources indicated that Minister Mangala Samaraweera had in-depth discussions with Canagey on several occasions prior to his visit to India and subsequently prior to his departure to Brussels, with regard to implementation and enhancing the vision of ICT in Sri Lanka. Canagey has been in the ICT industry for over 20 years and is one of the country’s youngest entrepreneurs. He holds a Masters Degree in Information Technology and has extensive knowledge of the industry. He was the founder and CEO of multiple technology enterprises, and was the founder and CEO of a highly-successful enterprise in the area of satellite communication and media. He has been very successful in productising software applications developed in Sri Lanka, and in formulating strategies and policies for taking local products to the international market.
