Opera Software yesterday launched the Opera Web Pass to offer telecom operators a whole new way to package and market the mobile internet to existing and potential customers.

With the Opera Web Pass, gone are the days of confusing, megabyte-based data plans that created a barrier to getting online for users. For example, a user can now choose to browse the web for 1 hour in the entire month and pay for it instead of having to choose a generic 100MB data plan.

The Opera Web Pass allows operators, in a flexible and cost-efficient way, to package time- or website-specific data offerings to their users. This makes it even more compelling for subscribers to get online using their mobile phones and in a way that is tailored to their needs. For mobile subscribers without data plans, this is the easiest and most flexible solution for accessing the web. If you have a couple of hours to spend on a train, get a couple of hours of web for the trip.

Opera Mini, made by Opera Software, makers of mobile browsers used by more than 215 million people worldwide. Major mobile phone operators and manufacturers have integrated Opera Mini into their offerings, in order to give their customers a better way to browse the web.

Opera Software has always been about providing the best web experience to as many people as possible, and, with today’s launch of the Opera Web Pass, the web should soon be accessible to even more people — when and where they need it. With the opportunity to choose exactly the time you would like to access the web, rather than the amount of megabytes, the offering becomes more tangible and easy to understand, something both operators and their subscribers will appreciate.

“We see this as a great way of lowering the bar for millions of users who are taking their first steps out to the mobile web. We are excited about working with our operator partners and making the web even more accessible and tailored to the needs of a growing mobile internet community,” says Sunil Kamath, Vice President for South Asia, Opera Software.

Opera Mini is a highly customizable mobile web browser that is compatible with more than 3,000 different makes of handsets. Operators can build their own user web experience with a co-branded Opera Mini solution, giving consumers a consistent experience, look and feel relevant to their market and operator of choice. Opera Mini helps drive data traffic, increases ARPU and provides the best user experience on any phone. It also reduces the data delivered to any handset by up to 90%.
