Orange Information Technology has come forward to partner with INFOTEL 2016 as the Gold Sponsor.
Organised by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS), INFOTEL is South Asia’s oldest and most prestigious Information and Communication Technology (ICT) exposition.
This year’s event is scheduled to be held from 11 to 13 November at the BMICH in Colombo, under the theme ‘Empowering Digital Citizens’.
Expressing his views on the tie-up, Orange IT Vice President Upendra Pieris observed: “As a leading Sri Lankan company, Orange IT has undertaken two national level commitments on behalf of the country, and is now working towards making them a reality. One is earning more valuable foreign exchange for the country and the other is generating more new employment opportunities for our youth, within a short span of five years, we generated 1,500 new job opportunities for young men and women. We are optimistic of doubling this number to reach a target of 3,000 next year (2017).’’
“Deeply conscious of its bounden duty towards the community at large, Orange IT has initiated a series of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. By extending its hand to support INFOTEL 2016 as its Gold Sponsor, the company has taken yet another significant step towards continuing its dedicated service to the nation in a bigger way.
“A great number of youth aspiring for jobs in the ICT industry as well as students eager to pursue higher education opportunities will definitely make it a point to visit the INFOTEL 2016 exhibition. At this exposition, we will create greater awareness and educate them on job opportunities and higher education scholarships available to them to embark on a productive career.”
“ICT is a wide, broad, wide spectrum field, but most companies in Sri Lanka opt to do business only in one or two sectors. The difference here is that Orange IT has ventured into business activities in all IT-related spheres in the industry. If a person keen on embarking on information technology as a career joins Orange IT, he/she can shine by building up a rewarding career in any of the chosen spheres.”
Orange IT was established in 2010 as part of Orel Corporation Ltd., offering both onshore and offshore outsourcing and consultancy services specialised in IT-enabled services, and business process outsourcing solutions from Sri Lanka, with a guarantee on incising costs and improving quality. As a leading reputed corporate in Sri Lanka, Orel Corporation Ltd., manufactures a signature range of top quality, world class electrical products, which have won the trust and confidence of a wide circle of clients over the past 30 years.
Emerging from small beginnings, with just two professionals at the helm, Orange IT, which ventured into the KPO, BPO business segment in 2010, has grown significantly over the years and now employs a workforce of around 1,500. Orange IT is today the biggest Sri Lankan company in the KPO, BPO business sphere. In addition, it is also the only local corporate actively involved in all-round IT-related businesses encompassing the KPO, BPO, IT Services, Software, Hardware, Networking, Mobile and Web Designing and Development sectors.
Speaking on Orange IT teaming up with INFOTEL 2016 as its Gold Sponsor, Sudath Amarasinghe, President of the exhibition’s Main Organising Committee, said: “Unemployment amongst educated young men and women has turned out to be a national issue today. Under such a prevailing socioeconomic backdrop, the Orange IT has created around 1,500 new employment opportunities for youth. The company has already made ambitious plans to provide more jobs to a similar number of youth in the future. Parallel to the INFOTEL 2016 exposition, there will be a series of vocational guidance programs in which a large number of school-going children and university students are billed to participate. This group and Orange IT will have face-to-face meetings during the exhibition. This will be a rewarding and enormously beneficial exercise to both parties.”
