Pramod Bhasin joins SLASSCOM advisory board

Pramod Bhasin, Founder and Vice Chairman of Genpact and Chairman of The Skills Academy, India has joined the advisory board of the Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM). Bhasin founded Genpact – formerly GE Capital International Services – in 1997 and was the president and CEO of Genpact until June 2011 and is currently the vice chairman. He is considered the founder and pioneer of the business process management industry in India. This industry now employs over a million people in India, directly and indirectly. Bhasin has also served as the Chairman of India’s National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM). Under his leadership, Genpact has also been the pioneer of this industry in China, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Genpact is acknowledged today as the leader in its industry and known for its leadership development, operating excellence and global scale, with over 55,000 employees across 17 countries and nearly $ 2 billion in revenue. Prior to Genpact, Bhasin was an officer of General Electric (GE). His career with GE spanned 25 years across the US, Europe and Asia. He subsequently became the head of GE Capital in India and Asia, having earlier worked with GE Capital’s Corporate Finance Group in Stamford, CT, USA. He moved to India from the US in 1994 to set up GE Capital from scratch. During this tenure he started joint ventures with HDFC in consumer finance, SBI for credit cards and Maruti for auto finance. He has successfully started up many new businesses and pioneered breakthroughs in diverse industries. Bhasin serves on the boards of NDTV, Bank of India and SRF Ltd., and on the governing boards of several educational institutions including IIM Lucknow, Lady Shri Ram College and Shri Ram School. Bhasin is currently working to build The Skills Academy, a pioneering institute to enhance employability, especially for people in the unorganised sector. He is also focussed in promoting entrepreneurship and financial inclusion thru a variety of initiatives. Bhasin was voted IT Man of the Year by Dataquest in 2009. He and Genpact have received many awards for their pioneering efforts in building the industry and for Genpact’s leadership position in India, China and Eastern Europe. Genpact and GE Capital have also spawned a wide range of leaders and entrepreneurs across many industries, ranging from captive BPM companies, training and education, hospitality, venture capital and hedge funds and can claim to have built an extraordinary leadership development engine, as demonstrated by the success of its alumni. Commenting on his appointment to the advisory board of SLASSCOM, Chairman of SLASSCOM Madu Ratnayake stated: “Pramod is a pioneer of the outsourcing industry and brings with him a wealth of experience.
