President awards Singer X Series Notebooks to top Grade 5 scholars

President Mahinda Rajapaksa gifted a Singer X Series Notebook each to the top 19 high scorers of the recently completed Grade 5 Scholarship Exam. The students who excelled in the Scholarship Exam were presented with Singer X Series Notebooks at a ceremony held on 3 October 2013 at Temple Trees.  President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Anura Dissanayaka, CEO Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC Asoka Pieris and several other dignitaries were present at this occasion. On 1 October, in conjunction with World Children’s Day, the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka announced that Sandaru Tathsara Balahewa of Mahinda College in Galle was placed first in the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam with 198 marks. The eighteen other high scoring fifth graders are from schools in Godagama, Belihuloya, Hettimulla, Ambalangoda, Ambalanthota, Opanayaka and Kuliyapitiya. Sky is the limit The sky is the limit for the top 19 grade 5 scholarship holders. They now have access to the many powerful possibilities offered by the Singer 310D X Series Notebook that includes an Intel processor and Windows 8 operating system. Each of the students will enter a prestigious school of their choice next year, owing to the fantastic results that they obtained, while their future studies will no doubt benefit from the use of a Notebook. The Singer X Series Notebook is the No. 1 PC for home owners as well as being the most economically priced. Singer also presented Singer X Series Notebooks to the top 10 G.C.E. O’ Level results holders last year. Singer pledged to uplift the standard of education in Sri Lanka by embarking on the Schools Development Project that began in 2010 where donations were made to 160 schools to mark Singer’s 160th anniversary. Singer continues o support rural schools as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility program by expending more than Rs. 10 million annually towards educational enrichment in Sri Lanka.
