President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday inaugurated the four-day World Summit Awards 2013, which has brought together in Sri Lanka the globe’s best innovative e-content applications community.
The ceremonial inauguration was held at the Presidential Secretariat.
World Summit Award Chairman Professor Peter A. Bruck, Minister of Telecommunication and Technology Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, ICTA Chairman Professor P.W. Epasinghe and CEO Reshan Devapura were present at the ceremony.
The UN-based WSA Global Conference will feature 40 outstanding ICT application developers, more than 60 high-profile speakers and attract up to 175 international delegates.
From today to Saturday, a host of international, regional and local experts will share key insights on the ICT industry during the Summit, which will be held at The Kingsbury.
Forty winners from all over the world will be felicitated at the award presentation ceremony. Visitors will be able to familiarise themselves with the best e-Content products as the producers of these e-Content applications will themselves explain them during the congress.
These products have been adjudged the best e-content applications after a meticulously held assessment by a team of multi-disciplined experts. These then are the best fruits of the ICT thrust in the development of e-Content applications.
WSA 2013, which is being held in Sri Lanka from 23 to 26 October, is not a map, but a catalogue of answers: Which product is worth your attention, and which trend can one see? What is being developed in other parts of the world, where are commonalities and differences? How do producers and publishers of new applications and websites navigate between user interests and technological innovation?
The World Summit Award (WSA) and its partners thrive because of its network of high-level experts in 198 UN member states who provide the knowledge to distinguish between high- and low-quality e-Content. WSA contributes to the United Nations and its mandate for the Action Plan on the World Summit on Information Society 2003 and 2005.
