Made in USA Otterbox safety cases for mobile phones were launched to the Sri Lankan market yesterday.

Otterbox box was originally formed in the US in 1998 by Curt Richardson with the mission to offer its customers the highest quality cell phone accessories, with an appropriate price for each segment and aimed to offer services that best suited each segment.

The company has spread its branches in many Asian countries, operated by two main headquarters. The company has its corporate offices in Hong Kong and Australia.

Otterbox cases are marketed by Quincy Pvt Ltd., a newly formed company by three young entrepreneurs Givantha Dharmadasa, Hamesh Balasuriya and Shalin Kulathilake.

“People are people no matter where they live and will always have the need for added smartphone protection,” said Quincy Ltd., Director, Givantha Dharmadasa. The first product that Otterbox invented was the waterproof case in 1998. In 2001, they introduced protection for cigar humidors and PDAs, and since 2002, the company focused on the safety of laptops and smartphones.

“We will be launching the Armor series, the next safety solution for your expensive mobile phone, which is crush proof and is capable of bearing a weight of 200 tons. The casing is available for two mobile models, the iPhone 5 and the Samsung SIII,” said Regional Sales Manager for Otterbox South Pacific Bala Sandesh.

The product consists of two covers, mainly the silicone pad for both sides of a laptop and a single in mobile phones, and the inner cover which has extra pads for more protection. “We are here to give the safety your expensive device needs at a low price,” said Dharmadasa. The pricing structure for the Otterbox cases is based on their partnership with Etisalat, Dialog, Futureworld, Vayu, Nastars and many other companies. The prices for the products start at Rs. 2,500.  Currently, the product will only be available in Colombo; however Quincy plans to take the product throughout Sri Lanka. “Our promotions will always stay in tune with our company objectives and mission statement,” said Dharmadasa.
