Sampath Bank’s tech prowess rewarded at NBQSA 2011

‘Sampath Vishwa,’ a unique internet banking facility from Sampath Bank, won a Silver award in the Financial Applications category at the 10th National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA) 2011, which was held in Colombo recently. The Bank’s ‘Sampath IT Change Management System’ won a Merit award in the In-house Applications category.

Organised by the British Computer Society to recognise exceptional achievements in the development of the local software industry, the NBQSA has become one of the most prestigious forums through which Sri Lankan ICT products are showcased to the highly competitive global ICT market.

“We’re extremely proud to have won this award and happy to add this to our array of recognitions in the past two decades. Sampath Bank has always strived to push the boundaries of cutting-edge banking technology, whether it is being the first bank to introduce the SET card and ATMs to Sri Lanka or introducing a world-class IT banking system to help both our customers and staff,”  said a spokesperson from the bank.

“We understand how busy our customers are and therefore constantly finding new ways to make sure that they spend less time with the logistics of banking and more time spending the money they’re collecting and saving.”

Sampath Vishwa which was developed in-house is offered under Sampath Bank’s TechBanking initiative in order to live up to the bank’s brand promise: ‘we create time for you’, enabling customers to make time for the more important things in life.

Sampath Vishwa was the only IT Solution from a Bank at the NBQSA to be nominated to the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2011 which will be held in Pattaya, Bangkok in November.

The ‘Sampath Vishwa’ customers can create their own user ID, giving them customer convenience for banking accessibility, anytime and anywhere, and the confidence of safety and security.

Sampath Vishwa also enables autonomous subscription to all the bank’s other services on a seamless connection.  

Right from its inception, the bank has concentrated on changes to out-dated banking practices and instilled in customers the confidence to use new technology which caused a revolutionary change within the banking industry in Sri Lanka.

The bank runs a fully fledged in-house software development department where innovations are developed, tested and deployed.

Simultaneously, employees, at ground level, are encouraged to send in their inputs and suggestions via the ‘Sampath IT Change Management System,’ which are reviewed by the Software Development Department and then deployed.
