Samsung Electronics Limited, a global giant in consumer electronics, launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab in Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
The company’s direct presence in Sri Lanka now enables local consumers to experience its products at the same time they are launched on the global platform.
“In that sense we are launching our first tablet device, the Samsung Galaxy Tab in Sri Lanka, which would bring a change in the mobile communication in the country,” said Sri Lanka Country Head Samsung India Electronics Limited Shanker Narayan.
He said that the Samsung Galaxy Tab is powered by the latest Android Operating System 2.2 and makes rich communication truly mobile; it presents a level of converged technology that moves beyond mobile or PC to an entirely new category.
Commenting on Sri Lankan mobile phones sales, Narayan said that according to TRC statistics, the country’s mobile phone monthly sales stand at 115,000 units per month with a 3% growth rate in sales.
“In that category we hold around a 17% market segment and it is growing,” he said. According to Narayan, Sri Lankan consumers are very aware about the changes in electronics technology and there is great demand for new versions or products. “Sri Lankan consumers are well informed about global markets and the recent reduction in the import tax on electronic items has made big change. Demand for electronics has gone up by a considerable level.’
