The latest products in Samsung’s brainchild series, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, will hit local tech stores on Friday in black onyx, gold platinum and silver titanium colours, giving android fans an opportunity to experience the much-awaited premium devices.

The S7s were shipped to Sri Lanka a month after the world first caught a glimpse of the device at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and is expected to reach customers through local partners and their respective channels.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are available at a price of Rs. 113,750 (32 GB) and Rs. 129,800 (32 GB), respectively. Moreover customers making pre-orders are slated receive a wireless charger and a clear phone cover with their purchase.

Addressing the launch, Managing Director of Samsung Electronics Sri Lanka Youngmin Shin said: “In our relentless search for a device that embodies the future of mobility, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge innovate in the areas of both performance and design to create a device that re-imagines what a smartphone can be. Tell us the world is flat and we will show you a galaxy that is endless into a better future.”

Samsung boasts of seven meaningful innovations powering the device and capitalises on its camera. This year the phone gives centre-stage to the dual pixel technology which goes hand in hand with a sharper lens and overcomes the prolonged issue of many smart phone users. The device is said to produce brighter and clearer photos even under low light.

The S7 and S7 edge outperforms its predecessor as its water and dust proof function significantly improves. According to Samsung Sri Lanka branch Product/Key Account Manager the phones are said to have been rated IP 68 and the devices can sustain up to 30 minutes submerged in a meter-and-a-half of water.

Following customer feedback, Samsung has once again added the expandable storage feature to its flagship, with the option to increase external memory up to 200 GB while internal memory stands at 32 GB.

Galaxy S7 and S7 edge perfect the 3D Thermoforming process, which now brings metal and glass together seamlessly from every angle. Both the devices come with a thinner bezel and a larger immersive screen in the smallest possible frame, with a 5.5” sAMOLED Display for the Galaxy S7 edge and 5.1” sAMOLED display on the Galaxy S7.

Last but not least the S7 has got a boost in its battery performance making significant hardware and software updates to optimise gaming performance on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Galaxy S7 and S7 edge come with 3000mAh and 3600mAh batteries, respectively.

The Galaxy S7’s CPU is about 44% more powerful than its predecessor. Samsung has also added a dramatically-enhanced GPU – which does the heavy lifting for graphics. This is about 60% more powerful than the one in Galaxy S6.

Samsung R&D in Southwest Asia played a significant role in the development of the new devices, with a platform to cater to the needs of premium users in Sri Lanka with Samsung Concierge. The unique consumer engagement platform has been customised to offer valuable services such as a dedicated VIP hotline, dedicated email support with 24 hour response time and dedicated service counter at service centres in Colombo, Kandy and Galle

The R&D team also contributed to developing the motion panorama feature that will enable consumers to capture live events in great detail by capturing every piece of dynamic motion. Additionally, the spotlight selfie feature that provides consumers a studio-like environment with virtual light source was developed by engineers in Southwest Asia.

Commenting further, Youngmin Shin added: “With Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, we bring to our consumers devices that shape the future and meet their varied needs in the present. The smartphones are powered by meaningful innovations that will make the lives of people better.”
