Samsung seeks No. 1 position in Southwest Asia

“This is a region of tremendous growth and potential for Samsung Electronics.  In 2010 Samsung achieved a remarkable 60% growth rate in Southwest Asia operations which is US$ 3.5 billion, contributing to the company’s US$ 135.8 billion in global revenues — the most successful in Samsung history,” said an elated J.S. Shin, President of Samsung Electronics – Southwest Asia, bursting with excitement.

Shin, who made these observations at the recent Southwest Asia Regional Forum 2011 held in New Delhi, added: “As the current No. 1 provider of LED and LCD televisions in the region, Samsung is challenging the lead position in vital categories such as mobile phones, frost-free refrigerators, air conditions and washing machines.”

Cutting edge technology

Samsung Forum 2011 Southwest Asia was held at the Taj Palace in New Delhi to highlight its latest cutting edge technology and showcase a wide range of Samsung products such as the environment-friendly LED, LCD plasma TVs, camcorders, the premium camera range, fully automatic top loading washing machines, air conditioners, microwave ovens and other gleaming mobile devices, bringing to light the superior Samsung technology in the context of Samsung’s unifying principle — ‘The Smart Life — making life easier for the modern man’.

The debonair Country Head of Samsung Electronics Sri Lanka Shankar Narayan speaking at the unveiling ceremony said that after Samsung set up its direct presence in Sri Lanka a little over a year ago, Samsung products had captured a market share of around 18% and that the company was courageously moving forward due to the product offering and the distribution expansion backed by a reliable service network.

“With the Government’s decision to reduce import duty on electronic items last year, the reach and range of Samsung products have vastly improved, making Samsung products affordable to the Sri Lankan people. To make Samsung products come within the reach of the average Sri Lankan consumer, Samsung proposes to arrange easy payment terms and other promotion activities,” he stressed.

Smart life

Among the wide range of items presented, what really stole the show were the glistening mobile devices such as laptops, netbooks, palmtops, smartphones and tablets, without which life on earth today would be unbearable.

Samsung’s new class of Android based smartphones and tablets in the GALAXY family line — a powerful line up exemplifying the Smart Life in the areas of speed, screen and content — are to be launched on 8 June to the region as well as worldwide. In fact some of these devices, especially the GALAXY Tab range which are already in the market in the SAARC region and elsewhere, are offering stiff competition to other similar devices belonging to well known brands.

A notable feature in Samsung mobile devices is their extremely thin design and their light weight, which offer the ultimate in mobile experience.
