Maxis Berhad Malaysia CEO Sandip Das has resigned from the Board of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) effective last week. Das was first appointed to SLT Board in June 2008 whilst he also served on the Mobitel Board.

Das’s resignation follows his exit from Maxis recently. His tenure as CEO of Maxis was to end on 30 June 2013 and had requested for an early release from office.

Maxis had previously announced that it will appoint former Vodafone Executive Johan Dennelind in December as its new CEO from July 1, 2013.

Global Telecommunications Holdings NV., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd (UT), a Malaysia based investment holding company owns 45% stake in SLT. UT also owns Maxis in Malaysia.

Das was among four Maxis nominees on the SLT Board. Others are C.C. Beng, J. J Blatt and L. Paratz.

Indian media reports said Das, will join Reliance Industries as the head of its 4G mobile venture.

Das was the Chief Executive Officer of Maxis Communications Berhad. He also served as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director on the Board of Maxis Berhad, Malaysia and as a Director on the Board of Aircel, India.

He was also voted as the Best CEO in Malaysia by FinanceAsia’s ‘Asia’s Best Managed Companies’ country listings in 2012.
