SAP AG has announced that Sri Lanka’s national mobile service provider, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, has chosen IPX services from SAP Mobile Services, a division of SAP, to deliver a superior 3G and 4G-LTE roaming experience to customers. Through this agreement, Mobitel can interconnect with other mobile service providers around the globe to deliver an enhanced roaming experience over the IPX network from SAP. Mobitel chose SAP Mobile Services due to its strong and growing base of LTE operators. “With the advent of 3G and 4G-LTE services, there has been an exponential growth in the volume of data being consumed over mobile networks,” said Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel Senior General Manager of Marketing Nalin Perera. “Today customers expect the same level of data connectivity when at home and abroad. SAP’s IPX network will connect us to a larger community of service providers. This will help us mutually enhance our customers’ mobile roaming experience by allowing them to access data over these networks while roaming and vice-versa.” Mobile data use key for region’s development South Asia is one of the fastest growing emerging markets and with the mobile phone as the primary source of communication and information, mobile data use is both rising and key for the region’s development. The South Asian market will benefit from SAP’s extensive community of operators, enabling mobile operators such as Mobitel to expand their international reach as soon as they become part of the company’s global LTE roaming community. “Sri Lanka’s telecommunications industry, especially its mobile telephony sector, is one of the more evolved in the region, offering 4G-LTE services ahead of its regional peers,” said IPX, SAP Mobile Services Vice President Matthew Tonkin. “Having worked with Mobitel since 2004, we welcome them into our global LTE roaming community. We remain committed to expanding this community even further and driving innovation that provides the highest value to mobile operators.” Unparalleled capabilities Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the country’s national mobile service provider, is a fully-owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom.
