Securing your big data

ISACA-Sri Lanka Chapter Conference 2013 on 18 September In any organisation one factor that is a known enabler to business is IT. But at the very core of a company’s expensive IT infrastructure is data. The amount of data that is being process are now so large and complex that it becomes progressively difficult to process using on-hand database management tools or traditional data processing applications. This volume of data is now coined as ‘Big data’. The promise of big data is that it enables businesses to leverage a range of information to provide new services, operate more efficiently, and market more effectively. But to harness the value of big data, every organisation has to re-think their strategies and security mechanisms. ISACA Sri Lanka Chapter of ISACA together with Oracle, is planning a one day conference on 18 September 2013 from 8.30 a.m. at the Hilton Residencies on ‘Securing Your Big Data’. The areas to be covered are securing the enterprise in digital age, big data big exposure, digital tattoo, value delivery from security investment and IS audit best practices. The speakers are industry experts in their respective field, such as Oracle Enterprise Security ASEAN and SAGE Senior Manager David Warnowidodo, Seguro Consultoria Ltd Layer 7 Director Sujit Christy, LOLC Technologies Head of IT Security and Compliance/Principal Consultant Parakum Pathirana, to name a few. ISACA is a professional body of individuals with a common interest in information systems governance, audit, control and security. It was founded in 1969 by a small group of individuals. Association membership has now grown to more than 100,000 members around the world. ISACA awards the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) qualifications which are now a requirement to work in the fields of IS Security, Audit, Control, Risk Management and Governance in most major multinational banks, manufacturing firms, and government organisations. The Sri Lanka Chapter of ISACA has been in existence since 1996 and has over 190 members in Sri Lanka. It has earned many international awards for its performance, including the award for the Best Chapter in Asia in 2006. For the period 2008 – 2009, the chapter received the K Wayne Snipes Award for the Best Medium Sized Chapter in Asia. Sri Lanka Chapter of ISACA is very much involved in promoting Information Systems Security, Audit and Governance in Sri Lanka.
